Be careful of light.

For best protection, all artwork should hang away from direct sunlight and/or fluorescent lighting since the UV-light can cause major damage. Conservation glass will help significantly by stopping 97% of the UV light, however, it cannot stop it altogether.

Conservation Matting

Most matboard these days is listed as acid free. However, this does not mean all mat is conservation quality. For best protection of artwork, cotton mats are preferred, because cotton does not contain as much acid as wood paper mats. Although calcium carbonate is added to most mats to neutralize the acid, it is still best to use the product that is best in its natural state for longevity. We use Cresent Museum grade boards for our conservation framing.

Hangers

The hanger in your wall should be rated about 4 times the weight of your picture to allow for vibrations and stress. A 5# picture should have a 20# hanger. Because mirrors are so heavy, they should have mirror hangers on each side of the back. DO NOT USE WIRE as the stress is too much on your frame.
